When Instagram was first launched, very few users knew about the DM feature.
However, as time went by, more and more users wanted to see what else the platform had to offer.
One of these features was DMs. In the beginning, users only used DM to exchange posts and memes with their friends.
There may be news you want to share with all of them. Some users prefer to inform their followers before leaving the platform (both temporarily and permanently).
The inability to send messages to more than one user at the same time via direct message on Instagram was a very important flaw. Currently, it is possible to send posts to more than one user at the same time by creating a group. With the new feature, there will be no need to set up a group to post simultaneously.
How to send mass messages on Instagram?
Is it possible to send mass direct messages on Instagram?
You can send private messages and/or images in two ways on Instagram.
Create a group chat
If you don’t have the bulk DM feature, another way to send to multiple followers at once is to create a group chat on Instagram.
- Step 1: Open the Instagram app on your smartphone and sign in to your account if you haven’t already done so.
- Step 2: Once you get to your home tab, go to the message icon in the top right corner of your screen and tap on it to open your DMs.
- Step 3: On the DMs tab, you’ll see another square icon drawn diagonally in the top right corner. This icon lets you draft a new message. Tap it.
- Step 4: You will be redirected to the new message tab where you will be asked to select the user to whom you want to send this message. When you select more than one person here, the chat will automatically be converted into a group chat.
- Step 5: Select all the contacts you want to send this DM to and tap on the Chat button on the top right corner of this tab, you will see a group created.
Now any message you type in this chat will be sent to all the members of the group. However, there are a couple of problems with this approach. First of all, you should know that there is no guarantee that all your followers will be included in this group chat. This is because while there is no limit to how many followers you can have on Instagram, there is a limit to the number of people you can add to a group chat. For a private Instagram user, this limit is up to 32 people. On the other hand, a business account user can add up to 100 people to a group chat, but not more.
Forward message to all your followers
Another way to send a message to all your followers (without adding them to a group) is to compose the message once and keep forwarding. Sending a DM on Instagram is a very simple task. All you need to do is open the conversation you created and send that message and long press on it.
Three buttons will appear at the bottom of the screen: Reply, Report and More
Tap on More and you’ll see three options, Direction being the first one here. Selecting this option will display a list of all your followers to choose from.
However, the main problem here is that you can forward messages to up to 5 people at the same time. This means it takes a lot longer to complete (depending on how many followers you have).
If it works for you, by all means go ahead. However, if not, there are third-party tools that you can use to send bulk DMs. In the next section, we will talk about these things.
